Royal Army Pay Corps Allahabad Meerut

It gives me a great deal of satisfaction to be able to report to you the success of the first RAPCAM reunion at Kidderminster held on lOth June 1999.

The Gainsborough House Hotel at Kidderminster could not have done more towards the memorable occasion which it turned out to be. The accommodation, service and food were excellent and those who attended enjoyed the evening and showed a firm interest in a repeat performance.

There were 15 of us who sat down for a meal, which of course included partners. After the meal the hotel provided a separate room where we all gathered with the ladies and nostalgia flowed like 'rapids over rocks'.

Some of those present had brought vast amounts of photographs from those days long ago and all of us could recall certain faces which became all too vividly remembered. There seemed to be particular names which were remembered by all of us and of course the accompanying story would be related. Names like Stan Eaves, David Noon, Ron Padfield, Frank Hume, Gladwin and Fairbanks {both footballers for AII'bad and Meerut). Sgt Major Smith seemed to be well remembered from the AII'bad days. Dennis Cross (fast bowler) from Meerut was quickly remembered by one of our guests as soon as the two met at the reunion. Dennis was accompanied by his son who had kindly brought his father to the event and had to suffer an evening of reminiscences which he bore with a great deal of patience and understanding.

There can be no doubt about the enjoyment of the evening and the only thing which would have made it even more pleasurable would have been to have had a few more present. I know only too well how difficult it can be to fit this kind of event into other things in which we may be involved. This is especially so in the summer months and there is always the question of the difficulties which some of us have in traveling long distances, that is why the Midlands always seems the most appropriate in order to accommodate guests from the North and the South.

I would welcome any ideas which our RAPCAM members may have about future events. That seems to be all I can say about our reunion but in closing I will provide the names of those members who joined us on 2Oth June: Mr & Mrs Roland Ive, Mr Dennis Cross with son, Mr & Mrs Tony Roper, Mr Harold Jones, Mr & Mrs Robert Futhorpe, Mr & Mrs Jack Davies, Mr Cyril Knight, Mr & Mrs Stan Davies.

Stan. it sounds as though you had a very good evening. As you are now aware. there is no Open Day in Worthy Down in 2000. but it is possible. as I said in my letter to you to reserve a table at the Annual Dinner & Reunion on Friday 14th April 2000. I suggest you circulate your boys and find out whether they would be interested in the London Jaunt (but note that it is open only  to Life Members of the Association). There is accommodation in the Victory Services Club (double and single rooms). very reasonable priced by London standards. and it is open to suggestion that you stay on for the Saturday and make it a weekend. For those of you who read this and qualify for membership of the RAPCAMS. get in touch with Stan Davies and meet up with someone you would not have seen for many. many years.

After Note Stan has written to ask all his members to let him know their opinion concerning the reservation of a table at the Association's Annual Reunion in April 2000. He said that it would be a wonderful opportunity to join up with old RAPCAM comrades and would also provide the added opportunity to become acquainted with old comrades who perhaps never served in India but were known from other postings either in the UK or abroad.
